40-year-old Aaron Powell has been sentenced to life in prison for his convictions in the deaths of his estranged wife and her friend.

Powell was sentenced this morning by Broome County Court Judge Joseph Cawley.

A jury convicted Powell of murder counts in a July trial.

The prosecution contended Powell killed 35-year-old Christina Powell and 24-year-old Mario Masciarelli. Their bodies were discovered in March 2013 in Christina Powell's home on Lisi Lane in the town of Binghamton.

Aaron Powell was arrested four days later after police found him at a Susquehanna County convenience store.

Powell is expected to appeal his conviction.
