The UMBC Retrievers ran away with their America East opener Thursday night in Baltimore as they downed the Binghamton Bearcats in men's basketball by a final score of 85-71.  The Retrievers led 37-31 at the end of the first half.  Binghamton cut that lead to four twice early in the second period but could not overtake UMBC.

The Retrievers were lead by Will Darley and Jairus Lyles who each scored 17 points.  Binghamton freshman Fard Muhammad scored 16 points to lead the BU attack.  He scored a dozen points on four three-point baskets.  Timmy Rose and Marlon Beck each had 12 point games.  Beck made four three-pointers.  He is now tied with Troy Hailey (2003-07) for career three-point shots made with 182.

The Bearcats are home on Sunday afternoon at 2 PM when they host UMass Lowell at the Events Center.  Airtime is 1:45 on News Radio 1290 WNBF.
