Sheriff Fund Drive is for Real

Several local sheriff’s departments are advising residents that there really is a legitimate fund-drive going on right now.

There have been several complaints in the past of scammers pretending to be law enforcement officials getting donations from residents illegally.

The Tioga County and Delaware County Sheriff’s Offices are among those issuing statements announcing the New York State Sheriff’s Institute is holding its annual Honorary Membership Drive right now.

Money raised in the effort goes toward summer youth camps, criminal justice education and programs to prevent juvenile delinquency and domestic violence.
