The City of Binghamton is getting two grants to hire police officers and support public safety programs.

Binghamton Mayor Richard David says $250,000 dollars in Department of Justice funds will go toward two new police officer positions.

The Community Oriented Policing Services, or “COPS” grant covers part of three years’ salary for two patrol officers.  The City share is $188,803 over three years.

$231,285 in state funding will go to reduce violent crime and training and overtime costs.

The funds will support salary and benefits for the existing civilian crime analyst and a Binghamton Police Department field intelligence officer as well as training and overtime.
