Traffic on a section of the Vestal Parkway will continue to be diverted around a major bridge rehabilitation work zone for the next several months.

Bette & Cring Construction Group was awarded a $4.4 million contract for the project. The Latham company has had crews at the Route 434 site near the Vestal Town Hall for the past two months.

The work is being done on the four-lane bridge over Choconut Creek just east of the Vestal Town Hall.

No significant traffic problems have been reported since lane closures and traffic pattern changes were implemented in April.

The town hall is not accessible from the Vestal Parkway because of the ongoing work. People who want to go to town offices must use Front Street instead of the parkway.

Construction operations for the first phase of the project are expected to continue through the end of October.

According to the state Department of Transportation, the bridge replacement work will resume next spring. The project is scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2027.
