Results of the first quarter of the targeted public safety and crime response initiative project have been released.

Fred Akshar, Broome County Sheriff, released the results today (April 2, 2025) from the  Broome County Sheriff’s Office Strategic Response Group.

During the first quarter, from January 1st to April 1st, 2025, the Broome County Sheriff’s Office Strategic Response Group targeted various zones in Broome County. Among the zones targeted were those coinciding with the nationally recognized Gun Involved Violence Elimination initiative.

The goal of the initiative is to reduce shootings and firearm-related crime.

Regardless of where you are in Broome County, you deserve to feel safe. Our Strategic Response Group’s unique flexibility and use of real-time data to increase police presence in targeted neighborhoods, roads with frequent speeders, or other problem areas throughout Broome County continues to elevate our efforts and abilities overall to keep our communities safe. The SRG also helps lighten the load for regular patrols, allowing them to handle criminal complaints, 911 calls, and reduce response time for emergencies. - Broome County Sheriff Fred Akshar

 

According to the Broome County Sheriff’s Office Strategic Response Group, the 2025 1st quarter results included:

• 31 Narcotics Arrests
• 24 Warrant Arrests
• 2 Weapon Arrests
• 18 Vehicle and Traffic Arrests
• 17 Other Penal Law Arrests
• 209 Traffic Violations Issued (254 Traffic Stops Conducted)

Since activation in mid-June, there have been over 440 arrests throughout  Broome County, including narcotics charges, fugitives with outstanding Arrest Warrants, and vehicle and traffic arrests.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office Strategic Response Group conducted over 1,183 traffic stops and issued over 1,000 traffic violations.
