Teen Traffic Safety Day is held each year at the Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena to educate young drivers about seatbelt use and dangers behind the wheel.

Teens from 17 school districts take part in demonstrations, including simulations about the effects of drugs and alcohol use on driving and the dangers of texting and driving.

The event is sponsored by State Farm Insurance, Visions Federal Credit Union and Dick’s Sporting Goods.

Johnathan Mueller, who was severely injured by an impaired driver, is a repeat presenter.

Organizers say crashes are one of the leading causes of death among teens and the goal is to reduce the number of teens hurt or killed in Broome County.
