Dozens of Tickets Written in Memorial Day Seat Belt Enforcement Effort
Law enforcement agencies in the region are reporting the Memorial Day weekend was a busy one for them with dozens of tickets being written during saturation enforcement patrols.
New York State Police, county sheriff’s offices and even local police were on the lookout for people not complying with the mandatory seat belt law in New York as well as for people driving while drunk, distracted or drowsy.
In Delaware County alone, Sheriff Craig DuMond says their participation in the 2019 Click it or Ticket Seat Belt Mobilization Enforcement effort resulted in the writing of 37 tickets for various vehicle and traffic offenses including seat belt violations, uninspected vehicles, registration violations, equipment violations and license offenses during one checkpoint operated with Sidney Police on Saturday.
The campaign began May 20th and will continue through this Sunday.
The increased enforcement efforts are funded through the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee Police Traffic Services Grant.
