Winter Weather Plagues Spring Weekend

Weather around our Southern Tier of NY and Northern Tier of Pa. has been anything but Spring-like Friday evening and into Saturday night. Wind gusts clocked at over 40 miles per hour and temperatures in the low to mid-30's made it feel like a return to early March at best. Snow squalls limited visibility in some areas to near zero.  The National Weather Service says more snow squalls are likely into the overnight. In the valley areas those squalls coated the ground and left a coating on vehicles parked outdoors.  Sunday looks better with a predicted high of 55 but winds still up to 25 miles per hour.

If you are thinking this is a bit harsh for the second week in May...you are correct.  While it has happened before figures found on the National Weather Service website at weather.gov indicate that the daily normals at the Greater Binghamton Airport show that the high temperature on May 9 should be 63.5 degrees while the low should be 43.9 degrees.

Looking ahead there is not much of a warming trend until late next week.  According to the National Weather Service forecast temperature highs should get back into the low 60's by Thursday and 69 on both Friday and Saturday.

Overall the weather conditions have been cool and very wet.  If you recall last April and May conditions were similar with the Binghamton Rumble Ponies battling rain and snow along with cold temperatures forcing a number of early season games to get postponed.  Many fans this season wish they had those issues since the Rumble Ponies season along with the rest of baseball remains on hold due to COVID-19.
