Gas Line Near Endicott’s Huron Campus Damaged

Sections of two busy Endicott streets were closed for hours after a construction crew damaged a natural gas line.

The incident happened shortly after 7:30 a.m. Thursday at the intersection of Watson Boulevard and Oak Hill Avenue, just north of the Huron Campus.

Endicott firefighters were sent to the scene of the gas emergency in the village's Little Italy neighborhood. Police and construction workers detoured traffic around the area.

The one-and-a-quarter-inch natural gas line was ruptured when it was struck during excavation work that was being performed by a crew from Power Line Constructors.

The company is installing a new traffic signal at the intersection.

NYSEG workers were dispatched to the scene, which is located near The Concordia and Di Cotta's restaurants.

NYSEG workers at the scene said they were not permitted to speak with a reporter.

According to a statement from the utility late Thursday afternoon, NYSEG was "working to safely restore service to the single customer affected."
