Veterans’ Challenges on Southern Tier Close Up

The Broome County Stop DWI Returning Warrior 5 and 10 mile runs are coming up at Otsiningo Park November 12 to call attention to driving issues many returning veterans face when they get back home.

Speaking on the November 5 of the weekly local public affairs program, Southern Tier Close Up, Broome County Stop DWI Coordinator Chris Marion talks about some of those specific issues that some veterans experience and programs that are available to help them.

Chris, himself a veteran who served in Afghanistan, even shares his own story of being involved in a wreck as a result of combat traffic habits that had been carried over to civilian life.

In addition to the 5 and 10 mile runs, starting at 10 a.m. on the 12th, there is a free run for children, entertainment and other activities at the park.

Time is running out to pre-register.  Marion says information and registration forms are available at the Broome Stop DWI Website.  Residents can also find information about driving challenges, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and other challenges some veterans face when they return home.
