The initial phase of the project started at the Tioga County line with some of the work being done during the day.

Most of the remaining paving work is being done at night to minimize the impact on motorists who use the parkway.

A spokesman for the New York State Department of Transportation says the project now is about 50 percent complete.

Paving could be completed this month, if the weather cooperates.

Median work, traffic signal improvements and striping also would be done as part of the project.

The work is being done by Barrett Paving.

The project could be finished by the end of the year, although it's possible some of the planned work will run into early 2015.
