Endicott-Vestal Bridge Inspection Will Cause Traffic Delays

Drivers who use the county-maintained bridge between Endicott and Vestal should be prepared for lane closures on the span this month.

According to the Broome County Public Works Department, a comprehensive inspection of the truss bridge is scheduled to start next week.

The bridge connects Vestal Avenue in Endicott with Main Street in Vestal.

Inspection operations are planned between July 6 and 10 and again between July 13 and 17. The work is being done as part of the planning process for a major bridge rehabilitation project that is scheduled for design and bidding in the next year.

During the inspection period, there will be daily lane closures with alternating one-way traffic across the bridge. County officials anticipate significant traffic delays, so drivers should allow extra travel time or use alternate routes if possible.

Thousands of vehicles use the Endicott-Vestal bridge every day. It was built by the American Bridge Company. It opened in August 1935.

The span was closed for several days in April 2025 for pavement and walkway repairs on the north side of the bridge.

Construction for the bridge rehab job is expected to get underway in 2028.
