State Sets Up Mass Vax/Testing Site at New Johnson City Location

Another state-run mass vaccination site is about to open in Johnson City but it won't be at the Binghamton University library annex.

Adam Weitsman said he was contacted by the Department of Health two days ago about the possibility of using the former Davis College campus for the facility.

Weitsman said the state will be able to use the gymnasium - known as the Robb Activity Center - to provide Covid-19 vaccinations and testing.

Weitsman said "they really needed it" so arrangements were made for the site to be used for three months. He said the state will pay the operating expenses for the building.

Equipment for the new facility was being set up on the campus Wednesday afternoon.

A health department supervisor said regular doses and boosters will be offered at the site on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. He said testing would be provided at the facility Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The "soft opening" for the site will take place Thursday.

People may make a vaccination appointment online at the Department of Health website.

The former Davis College campus is located on Riverside Drive east of Route 201.

Weitsman acquired the 13-acre property in December 2019.

It's not known why the state-owned Binghamton University library facility near CFJ Park in Johnson City isn't being used for the new mass vaccination and testing operation.

State officials say that site administered about 150,000 vaccine doses when it operated for several months early this year.
