The New York Mets announced the winners of their 2019 Sterling Awards.  These are the organization's top minor league performers and were announced on Monday.  According the the New York Mets press release there were seven honorees and three of those spent at least part of the season playing in Binghamton with the Rumble Ponies.

The Sterling Mets Minor League Pitcher of the Year was Kevin Smith.  Smith had 130 strikeouts in 117 innings pitched.  He had the third best ERA in the Mets minor league system at 3.45 after being promoted to Binghamton from St. Lucie in July.

Shortstop Andres Giminez had a fielding average of .978 and led the organization in steals with 28.  He hit a career high nine home runs and finished the season as New York's third-ranked prospect according to MLB Pipeline.

Infielder Sam Haggerty was named the Sterling Mets Minor League Baserunner of the Year.  It was quite a season for Haggerty who was selected to play in the Eastern League All-Star game but was sidelined due to injury.  He recovered and earned a promotion to Triple-A Syracuse and then to the New York Mets.

Haggerty was successful in 23 of 27 base-stealing attempts.  His six triples tied him for tops in the organization. 23 steals ranked second in the organization.  Over the past three seasons Haggerty has stolen 98 bases and was caught stealing 24 tim
