The New York Mets cut 39 minor league players on Thursday with the potential of more cuts looming.  The Mets were among several Major League teams to make sizable reductions to their minor league rosters. An analysis of the reported players who lost their jobs shows most of them played at the Class A level.  New York has four Class A affiliations with St. Lucie the top Class A team that generally sends players "up the ladder" to the Double-A Binghamton Rumble Ponies. Binghamton fans recall the name Joey Terdoslavich who was one of the players released.  He played in 74 games and hit .308 for the Rumble Ponies in the 2018 season.

These moves come with numerous question marks on the future of any professional baseball being played this season.  The Player's Association and Major League Baseball (MLB) are engulfed in a dispute involving compensation and length of season in addition to the safety concerns of the athletes and staff who would be involved in getting the games played.

With the cuts to large portions of teams' farm systems it is difficult to envision any intent on playing minor league games in 2020.  Compound that with MLB already making it known that it was looking at eliminating 42 minor teams in the Minors it has become a perfect storm for some or all of their plans.

While this is all occurring teams like the Binghamton Rumble Ponies must sit and wait.  This was to be a huge season for Binghamton baseball.  Had the season come off as scheduled preparations would be centering on the Eastern League All-Star which was set for the middle of July.  Instead the watch and wait continues.
