Remodeling Underway at Johnson City Wegmans Store
A major renovation project has gotten underway at the Wegmans store in Johnson City.
Store manager Rich Gilbert says work on the initial changes began right after Easter. He says the goal is to have the remodeling completed in time for Thanksgiving shopping.
The 125,000 square foot Johnson City store opened in August 1990.
Speaking on WNBF Radio's Binghamton Now program, Gilbert said thousands of customers were notified of the project in a recent mailing.
Gilbert said planning for the renovation work started nearly three years ago.
Much of the work planned over the next several months will be done by Wegmans employees who specialize in store remodeling jobs.
Some of the departments throughout the store will be expanded to provide more space for items in greater demand.
Gilbert said Wegmans will provide printed store directories which will be updated daily to inform customers of where they can find items as they are shifted to new locations. He said the store app will be updated more frequently.
The manager said the project also includes an upgraded electrical system and the installation of new coolers.
