Get ready, New York the sky is putting on a show. On Wednesday, November 5th, 2025, we’ll see the Full Beaver Moon, and this one isn’t just any full moon. It’s also a Supermoon, meaning it’ll look larger and shine brighter than most other moons this year. In fact, it'll reach its closet point to the earth all year (only 221,817 miles) at 8:19 p.m.

Why It’s Called the Beaver Moon

The name “Beaver Moon” comes from Native American traditions. This was the time of year when beavers built their winter lodges or when trappers set their beaver traps before the ponds and rivers froze. It’s a name that ties directly to the rhythms of nature which is a reminder of how animals and people once worked in sync with the seasons.

When and How to See It

On Wednesday, November 5th, the moon will rise in the east right after sunset, glowing with a soft golden color. As it climbs higher into the sky, it’ll shift to a bright silver-white. Because it’s a Supermoon, it will look bigger and brighter than a typical full moon, especially when it’s low on the horizon.

A Few Fun Facts

The Beaver Moon goes by a few other names, too. Some call it the Frost Moon or the Cold Moon, because of the time of year when the chilly air starts to settle in and frost begins to appear on the ground.

So get ready to step outside after sunset, and take a few minutes to enjoy the view. The November sky doesn’t always get this kind of spotlight and the Full Beaver Supermoon will be one you’ll remember long after it goes away.
