So much to see and do during the summer months of the year. Vacations, outdoor activities, carnivals and fairs, concerts, and just enjoying some 'me time.'
Here's something you may not have experienced, or it's been a while since your last visit to the Cooperstown, New York area. A day trip is the perfect summer getaway, including a visit ot the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum, the historic Downtown District, the Fenimore Museum, the Farmer's Museum, featuring the Cardiff Giant, beautiful Otsego Lake, and at the top of the lake, the annual Glimmerglass Festival.
The Glimmerglass Festival is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year (2025). It's among the top opera festivals in the world that centers artists and creators, and celebrates opera and musical theater legends. The Festival will present a world premiere, two company premieres, and a revival of the company’s first commission for young people.
The Glimmerglass Festival has been a destination for people who love making art and people who love watching it on our stage, and we couldn’t be more excited to celebrate our 50th anniversary with a season that will offer an experience that goes beyond every expectation. Glimmerglass is a destination that offers more than a night at the opera. It offers an experience in which every person that steps on our grounds can see themselves and their stories reflected. - General and Artistic Director Rob Ainsley
The 2025 season runs from July 11th through August 17th, featuring Tosca (Puccini/Illica & Giacosa), Sunday in The Park With George (Sondheim/Sondheim & Lapine), The Rake’s Progress (Stravinsky/Auden & Kallman), the world premiere of The House on Mango Street, and the original production of Odyssey (Moore/Rourke) to the Alice Busch Opera Theater for the first time.
