A Binghamton native is continuing to work on a plan to build an entertainment venue downtown.

Nate Levy, who now lives near Boston, is planning to call the establishment The JYNX. In a recently-created website, he bills the proposed venue it as a "live music and comedy hub."

Levy believes The JYNX would "fill a niche in the market" for entertainment events that would be popular with area residents and with students.

The entrance to the entertainment complex would be off Washington Street just north of a city-owned parking garage at 7 Hawley Street.

Levy acquired the parcels for the project from CVS last January. In addition to acquiring the parking lot that had been used by CVS, he purchased a Court Street building that had been used by the company until it closed its downtown store in 2021.

He said he's been considering this type of project for several years. He considered other potential sites in the Binghamton area before choosing the downtown location.

Levy told WNBF News that he intends to apply for a state grant to provide some funding. He said private financing would cover most of the project's cost.

Levy discussed his plans for the venue during a recent city planning commission meeting. The commission has scheduled a public hearing on the proposed project for July 7.

If things move forward without any unforeseen delays, Levy said he believes groundbreaking for the pre-engineered building could occur next spring. If that happens, he said The JYNX could open by the end of 2027.
