Cortland County Sheriff’s officials are investigating a fatal fire in McGraw in the Town of Solon.

Officials say the 911 Center received a call at 2:21 a.m. October 26 about a fire on Lapp Hill road. 

Firefighters found a person inside the building who appeared to have died as a result of the blaze.  Sheriff's officials say 35-year-old Paul Burdick III has been identified as the deceased.

Investigators from the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office along with the Cortland County Coroner’s Office and the New York State Fire Investigation Team are looking into the cause of the fire and the person’s death.

Authorities say the Solon Highway Department was also called in to use their loader to assist in moving large bales of hay at the scene.
