Dense Fog, Slick Spots and Power Still Out for Parts of Twin Tiers

Visibility and freezing on roadways can be a concern as wide areas of fog and below freezing temperatures grip the entire region.

Emergency Services officials and police all around the Twin Tiers early March 10 reported dense fog as temperatures were low enough to cause the moisture to freeze on solid surfaces.  The National Weather Service was also cautioning motorists of possible slick spots from the freezing of slush and some melted snow on roads and sidewalks.

Meanwhile, power issues continue for dozens of New York State Electric and Gas customers.  Thousands were left without service Monday into Tuesday due to a big wind and rain storm then heavy snow yesterday compounded problems and left additional customers without electricity.  As of 6 a.m. March 10, NYSEG reported on its website hundreds of customers in Delaware and Tioga Counties and a handful in Broome and Chenango Counties were without power. Many of those expecting to have service restored by midday but NYSEG said it wasn’t expecting to have electricity back on to parts of Candor in Tioga County until late afternoon.

Another storm system is baring down on the region for the weekend. The National Weather Service in Binghamton has issued a Winter Storm Watch from 1 a.m. Saturday to 1 a.m. Sunday.
