Who Knew? Binghamton University Leads in Cyber-Security Research
When you imagine the people in charge of ensuring the privacy of data and protecting the United States' information infrastructure, you may picture a darkened room in a secret location filled with figures huddled over flickering computer screens, not so much researchers at a Vestal college campus.
Homeland Security and the National Security Agency have named Binghamton University a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Research for work being done by the Center for Information Assurance and Cybersecurity.
To be named a Center of Academic Excellence-in Research, BU had to complete a 200-page application detailing published cyber-security research and other criteria.
The director of the University’s research Center, professor Ping Yang says “the main goals are to reduce the vulnerability in the information of the United States” through higher education and "producing professionals with cyber-defense expertise.”
