Wendy's Walk for Kids at the Dicks Open in August is expected to be the biggest yet.

Speaking on the June 13 edition of the weekly local public affairs show, Southern Tier Close Up, walk organizer Keli Cooper talks about the origins of the walk, which has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for not for profit agencies with programs for children.

Cooper says the program selects three different charities each year to join the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption as beneficiaries.  This year's charities are the Mental Health Association of the Southern Tier, Kopernik Observatory and Our Space at Rec. Park.

In addition to pledges from walkers, money is raised through the yearly concert on the first night of the Dick's Sporting Goods Open at En-Joie Golf Course in Endicott.  The Friday, August 28 concert will be Country Music superstars: Lady Antebellum along with Sam Hunt.

Tickets can be purchased at Wendy's restaurants, the recipient charities and online at www.wendyswalk.com.  Online purchases do not have purchasing fees and all proceeds from tickets sold at those participating outlets will go to Wendy's Walk for Kids and all the money stays in the local community.

The walk takes place Sunday, August 30th during the final round of the Open.

Registration forms are available at the walk website and at area Wendy's Restaurants.

Southern Tier Close Up can be heard Saturdays at 12:10 p.m. on News Radio 1290 WNBF.
