Broome County businessman Adam Weitsman is offering a former college campus to any government agency that can utilize it in the battle against the coronavirus.

Weitsman, who lives in Vestal, Monday night announced he's putting on hold a development plan for the Davis College property in Johnson City. In a Facebook post, he said he's willing to donate use of the entire facility to any federal, state or local agency "to set up a base camp to help find a cure."

In a telephone interview, Weitsman said he's open to having the property used to help coronavirus patients. He said there are no strings attached to his offer.

Weitsman said he contacted a couple of local elected officials shortly before he posted his offer on Facebook.

Weitsman said the idea just came to him in the evening as he thought about how many people are being affected by the growing number of coronavirus cases.

Weitsman has plans to establish a basketball academy at the Riverside Drive campus. He acquired the property in December. He said he's willing to put his "dream project" on hold if the site can be used in the coronavirus fight.

Weitsman had previously said he hoped to have the basketball academy and a companion esports academy in operation in 2022.
