Vestal Texas Roadhouse Restaurant Closed After Fire
Diners and employees were forced out of the Texas Roadhouse restaurant in Vestal when a fire broke out in the kitchen.
The blaze at the business on the Vestal Parkway across from the Binghamton University campus was reported around 6:45 p.m. Thursday.
A substantial amount of smoke was seen pouring from the roof area of the restaurant for a time.
The fire apparently was brought under control quickly and no injuries were reported.
The Broome County Health Department was notified of the fire. An inspection will be conducted before the restaurant is given permission to reopen.
The lights were on inside the Texas Roadhouse building early Friday morning. No fire or smoke damage was visible from the outside of the business.
There were no signs posted indicating a fire had occurred or when operations would resume.
The Texas Roadhouse restaurant at 4399 Vestal Parkway East opened in November 2003.
The eatery was so popular in the first few weeks of operation that traffic backups occasionally occurred on the Parkway.
Access to the place initially posed some challenges because some first-time visitors tried to enter its parking lot by cutting across the approach to Route 201.
Changes, including improved signage and additional traffic control measures, were made to address the problems.
