Construction Underway on $11 Million State DOT Vestal Facility
A key state Department of Transportation administrative and maintenance complex is being upgraded.
Workers are busy constructing a large building for the agency's sub-residency on Route 26 in Vestal.
Trucks and other large equipment were removed from the site last spring in preparation for the $11 million project.
The sub-residency location was cleared several months ago for the construction work. The large salt storage barn on the site was left standing.
The project is on track for completion in early 2026. The structural steelwork is approximately 60 percent complete, and the installation of metal wall and roof panels is scheduled to begin in early March.
An eight-bay building will replace a smaller structure to enhance DOT operations.
During the summer, the agency's Vestal-based workers operated out of the DOT facility on Barlow Road in Kirkwood.
But during the winter, the DOT's snow and ice operations are continuing at the Route 26 site.
A DOT spokesperson said crews are using the Vestal salt barn and are working from trailers while the new facility is being constructed.
In addition to the vehicle storage bays, the new building will have office space, bathrooms and training rooms. The project also will include a fuel dispensing island and a generator.
A state Office of General Services representative said the structural steelwork at the site now is about 60 percent complete. Installation of metal wall and roof panels is scheduled to start in early March.
William H. Lane Incorporated is the general contractor for the job. Electrical work will be done by Blanding Electric and mechanical work will be performed by Louis N. Picciano and Son. The plumbing work will be handled by Slavik and Son.
The project is expected to be completed early next year
