Binghamton police detectives are working to locate several people who may have been involved in a dispute on a city street that resulted in gunfire.

Patrol officers were sent to 5 Lydia Street shortly after 4:30 p.m. Wednesday after residents in the First Ward neighborhood reported hearing gun shots.

Detective Captain Cory Minor said there had been a disturbance that eventually led to the shots being fired. He said no injuries had been reported but one shot apparently struck an uninvolved vehicle.

Police closed a section of Lydia Street between Oak Street and Murray Street following the incident.

One person involved in the dispute reportedly left the area on foot while two or three others left the scene in a car.

Police found that vehicle - a Toyota Prius - in the driveway of a residence on Edwards Street but the occupants had fled the area.
