2 Time Dicks Sporting Goods Open Winner Bart Bryant Dies In Crash

Bart Bryant, the only person to twice win the Dick's Sporting Good Open at En-Joie Golf course in Endicott, and who once beat Fred Couples by a shot and Tiger Woods by four to earn the Memorial trophy from Jack Nicklaus, passed away in a car crash on May 31st. He was 59.

USA Today reports that the accident happened in Florida as he and his wife, Donna were driving to their home in Winter Garden from Atlanta, Georgia. Bryant won his first Tour victory when he was 41 at the Texas Open in 2004 in San Antonio. It was his 187th PGA Tour start.

According to the PGA Tour website, in 2005, Bryant won the Tour Championship and Memorial Tournament. That was his best year. Due to battling shoulder and elbow injuries, he only posted seven more top 10s while on tour. He was a three-time PGA tour winner.

Bart Bryant won the PGA Tour Champions Dick's Sporting Goods Open at En-Joie Golf Course in Endicott first in 2013, and again in 2018. The DSGO is now in its 15th year (there was no tournament in 2020 due to the pandemic.)

USA Today notes that in 2019, Bart Bryant had five top 25 PGA Tour Champions finishes, along with one top 20 in four starts in 2020. He is survived by his brother, Brad, his wife, Donna along with his daughters Kristen, and Michelle.
