Twin Tiers in for a Soaking

The Twin Tiers could be in for a soaking starting September 23 and the National Weather Service cautions that could mean some flooding issues.

The Binghamton office says flash flood watches are in place for west and south of the area in Tioga County, Pennsylvania and areas south of Scranton but the Twin Tiers could see an inch or two worth of rain Thursday, September 23 through Thursday night.

The National Weather Service, in a Hazardous Weather Outlook, says the rain projected for the Twin Tiers should not be enough to cause significant flooding on the rivers and streams but there could issues in poor drainage areas with heavy downpours associated with thunderstorms.

One to two inches of rain is possible but there could be higher amounts associated with thunderstorm activity,

A slow-moving cold front is being blamed for the rain potential and chance for thunderstorms.

There is also a potential for strong winds.  Forecasters are calling for wind gusts to exceed 20 miles per hour at times.
