Nicosia said he's been "hooked on meteorology" since becoming fascinated with severe weather when he was growing up in Athens, Pennsylvania.
He studied meteorology at Penn State and joined the National Weather Service in 1991. He spent a few years at offices in Michigan and five years in State College, Pennsylvania before moving to the Binghamton office in 1999.
Nicosia became familiar to many Binghamton-area residents during the two decades he served as the warning coordination meteorologist for the region.
He was promoted to the top position at the field office in June 2021.
As he recalled his time with the weather service on Tuesday, Nicosia said "it's been an awesome time." He added: "It's been a great career."
