Authorities say four people are dead following a fire at their home in the town of Vestal.

Bob Joseph/WNBF News [file][/caption]The blaze at 439 State Line Road was reported at about 2 a.m. May 21.

Vestal fire department officials say a woman and three of her children died. They say a 15-year-old boy jumped from a window of the burning house and called for help from a neighbor's residence. Officials from the Broome County Office of Emergency Services Bureau of Fire Investigation identified the victims as:

Mother, Nicole Tarbox, age 33

Children, Mariah Tarbox, age 3

Mya Tarbox, age 9

Evyn Tarbox, age 13

Authorities say the fire had spread throughout the two-and-a-half story structure by the time the first firefighters arrived.

Officials say the blaze was under control after about 30 minutes.

Several fire departments assisted Vestal firefighters in battling the blaze.

The cause of the fire is under investigation

Two of the children who died were students in the Susquehanna Valley School District. The district issued a statement indicating grief counselors and social workers were being made available to assist students.
