Suspect in Custody After Two People Are Shot in JC
Johnson City police have a suspect in connection with the shooting of two people on the village's South Side.
Authorities say the incident happened on Grand Avenue near Boland Drive around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Investigators say an argument escalated into a physical fight and then someone started shooting.
Two people sustained minor injuries which were described by police as "non life-threatening."
A short time later, there was a report that a person was stabbed on Grand Avenue. Although authorities confirmed the shooting, they have not indicated whether someone was hurt as the result of a stabbing.
Detectives Wednesday afternoon said a suspect in the shooting is in custody and charges are anticipated. The suspect's name has not been released.
Investigators are trying to identify and locate others who were involved in the dispute.
Johnson City police were assisted by the Metro SWAT team Wednesday morning in executing a search warrant on Hudson Street as they sought evidence related to the shooting.
Police say Tuesday night's incident is not believed to be related to the March 30 fatal shooting of Shakeel Khan as he closed his Halal Bites restaurant at Riverside Drive and Grand Avenue.
Police Chief Brent Dodge said there will be a heavy presence of patrols in the area to help reassure neighborhood residents and to deter any further incidents.
