It’s been a busy night for New York State Electric and Gas crews dealing with power outages scattered around the region.

A majority of the problems as of 2 a.m. August 31 were in the City of Binghamton where power was reported to be out to over 600 customers on downtown streets including at Hawley and State, Chenango, Court and Susquehanna.  Most customers were due to be restored before the morning commute and Binghamton Police reported no major issues other than a few intersections requiring supplemental traffic control as traffic lights were out.

Tioga County officials said there had been some flickering lights at the public safety facilities as a string of strong thunderstorms swept through starting before 5 p.m. August 30. No major issues were reported and New York State Electric and Gas noted on their website: www.nyseg.com less than a dozen customers were without power at 3 a.m.  August 31. Those areas had power restored a short time later.

Likewise, very scattered power interruptions were reported by NYSEG in the Town of Norwich in Chenango County that lingered past midnight.

In spite of the heavy downpours that came with the rain in the late afternoon, there were no reports of damage from urban or poor-drainage flooding.

Prior to the system moving through, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation had reported a tree and wires down in Susquehanna County.  At 2:20 p.m. August 30, PennDOT reported State Route 92 was closed from the intersection of Milford and Owego Turnpike to the intersection of Franklin Road in Lenox Township. PennDOT expected that road to reopen by mid-morning August 31 at the latest.
