Binghamton Resident Gets 6.5 Years in Prison
Lamont Weaver, a 20-year-old resident of Binghamton, has been sentenced to 6.5 years in New York State Prison, followed by 5 years of post-release supervision for Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree.
The sentencing, presided over by the Honorable Carol A. Cocchiola in Broome County Court, marks the outcome of a case stemming from Weaver's involvement in a shooting incident that took place on April 27, 2024, outside 100 Susquehanna Street in the City of Binghamton.
During the incident, Weaver was reported to have fired multiple rounds, prompting concerns about public safety and the well-being of the community.
In her sentencing remarks, Judge Cocchiola emphasized the necessity of protecting the community from individuals like Weaver, highlighting the gravity of his actions and the potential risks posed to society if he were to be released without proper oversight.
Broome County District Attorney F. Paul Battisti strongly condemned Weaver's actions, referring to them as "heinous" and indicative of a blatant disregard for the safety and security of the community. Battisti called for Weaver to use his time in incarceration as an opportunity for reflection and rehabilitation, hoping that he would make genuine efforts towards personal growth and positive change.
The Binghamton Police Department investigated this case, with District Attorney F. Paul Battisti and Deputy District Attorney Lucas Finley leading the prosecution on behalf of the District Attorney's Office.
