Heart disease and strokes cause one in three deaths among women every year, that is more than all the cancers., and 80 percent of cardiac and strokes can be prevented, just by knowing the right things to do.

The Go Red for Women event this Friday, is a movement to inspire women to make the necessary lifestyle changes, to reduce their chances of a heart attack and stroke.

Many businesses and individuals will be wearing red this Friday, as part of the national movement that started in 2002, when the Heart Truth introduced the Red Dress as the national symbol for women, and heart disease awareness.

Among our local businesses, Security Mutual is a proud supporter of the American Heart Association and National Wear Red Day.

According to a news release from Security Mutual Life, their building located on the corner of Court and Exchange street will light up red this Friday night, in support of Go Red for Women.

Security Mutual CEO Bruce Boyea said “But this year we think it’s more important than ever to help spread the word of the many simple, positive steps people can take to improve and protect their heart health. As a visible reminder to our community, Security Mutual is joining the national wave of red”
