Johnson City Opening Redesigned Village Park
Construction has been completed on a makeover project at a park in the village of Johnson City.
The revitalization work at Jenison Park at Willow Street and Corliss Avenue had been proposed several years ago. The park is located near the Binghamton University Health Sciences Campus
Boland's Excavating of Conklin last year was awarded a $576,000 contract for the park redevelopment job. Preliminary site work started last fall.
Village officials have said the goal of the project was to create a "memorable public space" that will celebrate Johnson City's past and future.
Johnson City Mayor Martin Meaney said the fencing surrounding the remodeled park was removed this week after NYSEG installed an electricity meter at the site.
Meaney said it's a welcome addition to the village's other parks. He said there are a few items that need "tidying up" at Jenison Park including fencing near a performance area. Some artwork also will be installed at the site.
Benches and lighting have been installed along with connective concrete paths at the park. The mayor said it will be "a nice gathering place."
