Search Over: Fenton Man Who Threatened Police in Custody

Police have apprehended a Broome County man who had posted a series of online threats against law enforcement agencies.

The 36-year-old North Fenton resident was located more than 24 hours after a manhunt was launched. He was found shortly before 4 p.m. Thursday not far from his home on Route 79.

According to state police update, "no injuries were reported to the man or to law enforcement."

The man - whose name was not released by the authorities - was taken into custody "without incident." He was transported from the scene by state police, who did not reveal whether he was armed when he was found.

Troopers were sent to the man's residence in North Fenton shortly after noon Wednesday to check on his welfare after he allegedly had threatened to kill law enforcement officers.

The man left his house on Route 79, prompting a large-scale search of the area. Police believed he may have been armed with an AR-style rifle and possibly other weapons.

Authorities said he had fled into a heavily-wooded area behind his residence.

A section of Route 79 west of Route 369 was closed for several hours during the initial stage of the manhunt. The roadway was reopened Wednesday night.
