Saturday was an exciting day for the Susquehanna Valley Sabers and Maine-Endwell Spartans baseball teams.  Both posted victories in the state quarterfinals played at NYSEG Stadium.  With their wins they advance to the NYSPHSAA semifinals hosted by Section 4 and held at various locations around Broome County.

Dominic Chesna fired up a one-hitter as the Sabers knocked out Skaneateles 4-1 to advance to the semifinals.  They will meet Center Moriches out of Section 11 at either SUNY Broome or Maine-Endwell on Friday.  With the win SV ups its record to 19-1.

Maine-Endwell advanced with a nail-biter against Roosevelt High School from Hyde Park.  The Spartans jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning and upped it to 4-0 in the second frame.  But Roosevelt's Presidents battled back to to go up 5-4 heading into the bottom of the sixth when M-E's Matt Raleigh doubled-in the equalizer.

That set the stage for bottom of the seventh inning fireworks for the Spartans.  Center fielder Josh Chandler who had been struggling at the plate came up with two runners aboard.  He got his pitch to hit and blasted a game-winning walk-off three-run home run to give the Spartans the victory.  The final...8-5 M-E.

With the win Maine-Endwell moves on to the state semifinals where they will meet Canandaigua Academy at Sylvester Field at Union-Endicott on Friday at 2:00 P.M. in a class A semifinal.
