Officials have announced that  Broome County has been chosen as the host for the Softball and Boys' Basketball State Championships from 2025 to 2027.

The Visions Veterans Memorial Arena will be the venue for the Boys' Basketball State Championship, while the Softball State Championship will take place at the newly named Greenlight Networks Grand Slam Park, formerly known as BAGSAI.

Broome County Executive Jason Garnar expressed his excitement about this achievement, stating that it is a huge win for Broome County on multiple levels. He emphasized that it benefits local hotels, restaurants, and the economy.

Brenda Gowe, Broome County Parks, Recreation, and Youth Services Director, is thrilled about being chosen to host the Softball Championships at the Greenlight Networks Grand Slam Park. Gowe mentioned the collaborative effort from various entities in Broome County and expressed eagerness to showcase the state-of-the-art facility to student-athletes, coaches, parents, and fans from across the state.

Chris Marion, Visions Veterans Memorial Arena and Forum Director, expressed pride in hosting the New York State Boys' Basketball Championships at the Visions Veterans Memorial Arena starting in 2025. Marion looks forward to providing a venue that honors the achievements of high school athletes, creating memorable experiences for them and the thousands of patrons attending the games in Downtown Binghamton.

Ty Muse, President and CEO of Visions Federal Credit Union, shared his excitement about the return of the NYS Basketball Championship. Muse highlighted the opportunity to showcase the region and celebrate youth athletics at the highest level. He also reflected on his own participation in the event as an athlete almost 40 years ago, expressing hope that present-day student-athletes have a similarly remarkable experience.

Judi Hess, Visit Binghamton Director, expressed pride in the successful partnership with Broome County and Section IV to secure the winning bids for hosting the championships. Hess emphasized the positive economic impact felt across local businesses, showcasing the community's sports facilities, hotel partners, and restaurants.

Dan English, General Manager of Strategic Growth at Greenlight Networks, expressed pleasure in being selected to host the championships. He acknowledged the facility's integral role in the local sports community and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to welcome sports fans and high school athletes from across the state.

With Broome County securing sites for the Softball and Boys' Basketball State Championships from 2025 to 2027, it presents a significant opportunity to showcase its exceptional facilities, hospitality, and community to athletes, families, and fans statewide.
