Close to 70 runners competed in the Annual Run for Your Heart 5 K on Sunday afternoon at the Vestal Rail Trail.  The race began and finished at the Coal House.  The event raises money for the American Heart Association, promotes fitness and increases awareness of heart disease and stroke.

For the first time the race was won by a female.  Courtney Varano from Apalachin won the race by a lengthy distance with a time of 19:35.  The 35-year old runner defeated her husband Wade Varano by over one minute.  Wade finished in a time 20:50.  It was the first husband-wife winning combination in the race as well.

Vince Fox finished in third place running the 5 K Rail Trail in a time of 21:34. The race combines with the Annual Heart Walk to raise money to fight heart disease and stroke.  This year it is expected that the combined proceeds will exceed the goal of $250,000.
