The 30th Annual Southern Tier Heart Walk is set for this Sunday on the campus of SUNY Broome.  Registration and exhibits open at 10:00 A.M and opening ceremonies for the walk are scheduled for 11:30 A.M.

Registration will be held inside the entrance to the SUNY Broome Ice Center and health information exhibits will be on display inside the actual skating area.  The entire walk is held on the SUNY Broome campus with the option of walking 1.5 or 3 miles.

Proceeds from the walk benefit various projects for the American Heart Association and help in education, research and advocacy projects in the fight against heart disease and stroke.  The Heart Association's goal for donations from the walk is $300,000.  As of early afternoon on Saturday over $278,000 has been raised.

The Heart Walk began as an arm of the Heart Radiothon on WNBF Radio that was held in the 1970's.and 1980's.  For several years both the walk and the Radiothon were held and then as the walk continued to grow it replaced the two-day Radiothon.
