Games One And Two - Wednesday, April 8
Tuesday, April 7th, the home opener versus the New York Yankees AA affiliate, Somerset Patriots, was postponed due to cold temperatures and high winds. I don't know anyone who would want to be out in that weather. So, the home opener was moved to Wednesday, April 8th, with a doubleheader.
The Rumble Ponies won both games of the home opener on Wednesday, sweeping the Somerset Patriots at Mirabito Stadium. Both were 7-inning games. The Rumble Ponies took the first game 11 to 3, and then the nightcap against the Patriots, 2 to 1.
According to Cam Manna's report, in Game Two, Wyatt Young went 2/3 in the first game with six runs batted and his first career grand slam, A.J Ewing extended his hitting streak to four games, Binghamton's pitchers combined to strike out 20 batters and issued just seven walks, and eight Binghamton hitters reached base at least twice in the doubleheader.
Game 3 - Thursday, April 9
Not a great day for the Rumble Ponies as they fell to the Patriots 12 to 2 in an early afternoon game at Mirabito Stadium. Cam Manna noted that right-hander Will Watson set a season high for innings, infielder Marco Vargas extended his hit streak to two games, and RHP Brian Metoyer made his season debut for Binghamton out of the bullpen.
Game 4 - Friday, April 10
This game was originally set for a 6:07 p.m. start, but due to the impending rain storm, the first pitch was moved to 5:45 p.m. against the Somerset Patriots in game 4 of the 6-game series. The night was quite a success for the Rumble Ponies as they blasted the Patriots to take a 3 to 1 series lead at Mirabito Stadium, winning by a score of 13 to 1.
From Cam Manna's report, the Rumble Ponies lineup walked 13 times in the game, which tied a franchise record that was set on July 27, 2025, on the road against Reading. The first inning for the Rumble Ponies was quite exciting as center fielder A.J. Ewing had a leadoff double, second baseman Marco Vargas followed it up a pitch later with an RBI triple, and first baseman Chris Suero tallied his third hit of the season (all home runs). Before the inning was done, the Rumble Ponies scored a total of 5 runs.
Right-hander Bryce Conley got his first start of the year on the mound and was flawless, not allowing a run in 4.0 innings and striking out six batters.
Game 5 - Saturday, April 11
Rumble Ponies - 7, Somerset Patriots - 6. Another fine performance by the Rumble Ponies on Saturday afternoon, scoring their second walk-off win in this young season. Both teams combined for 23 walks, with Binghamton’s staff walking 13 batters and Somerset’s walking 10.
Game notes from Cam Manna - A.J. Ewing extended his hit streak to six games, Eli Serrano III picked up his second multi-hit game, JT Schwartz set a season high for hits (2) and RBIs (3), and walked twice in the win, and Chris Suero, at the conclusion of this game, had 10 RBIs in his first five games.
Game 6 - Sunday, April 12
The Somerset Patriots pulled off a win on Sunday against the Binghamton Rumble Ponies by a score of 7 to 5 at Mirabito Stadium, although the Rumble Ponies took their first series of the year 4 games to 2.
This game was pretty much the Patriots' game until the 9th inning, when they were up 7 to 2. Bottom of the 9th, the Rumble Ponies rallied, as catcher Chris Suero ripped a lead-off triple and designated hitter Eli Serrano III got hit by a pitch to set up Jose Ramos, who sent a ball over the left center field wall to make it a 7-5 game. First baseman Nick Lorusso walked and second baseman A.J. Ewing worked a nine-pitch walk to set up shortstop Marco Vargas, but the comeback ended with a groundout to second base, and 7-5 was the final.
Next Up For The Binghamton Rumble Ponies
The Rumble Ponies are off most Mondays throughout the season, but will be back in action on Tuesday, April 14th, to begin a six-game road series against the Akron Rubber Ducks, the AA Cleveland Guardians affiliate at 7 17 Credit Union Park. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. with the pre-game to kick off at 6:20 p.m. with play-by-play action from Matt Levine and Cam Manna on the WNBF Rumble Ponies Radio Network.
