Rumble Ponies Back in Action in Portland
The Binghamton Rumble Ponies are back in action tonight (Thursday) with a doubleheader in Portland, Maine against the Sea Dogs. (coverage live on News Radio 1290 WNBF). Entering tonight's first game the Rumble Ponies are 8-13 in the second half of the season. The Sea Dogs are 9-10 and tied for second place in the Eastern Division with Hartford. Reading is on top of the division at 14-7.
In the Western Division the Bowie Baysox are in first place at 15-4 and are riding a four-game winning streak. Erie is right behind at 13-5 followed by Altoona at 12-6.
David Peterson starts the first game while Joseph Shaw is game two's starter for Binghamton. Rumble Ponies pitchers face the Eastern League's home run leader in Bobby Dalbec who has ripped 19 home runs so far this season.
Four Rumble Ponies saw action for the Eastern Division in last night's Eastern League All-Star Game in Richmond. The Western Division won the contest 5-0. Patrick Mazeika went 0-2 while Braxton Lee started in center field and drew a walk in three at-bats. Adonis Uceta gave up no hits and no runs in one-third of an inning on the mound while Harol Gonzalez yielded two hits and two runs in a one-inning stint.
