The Southern Tier Chapter of the American Red Cross says they are assisting four residents who were displaced in a house fire on East Main Street in Endicott.

The blaze at the home located between Mersereau and Vestal Avenues was reported shortly before 2:30 a.m. August 10.

The flames destroyed the first floor of the house but firefighters from several departments on the scene were able to keep the fire from spreading to the second story.

There were no injuries and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

For information on the program or to schedule an installation appointment, call (607) 785-7207 or email

Last weekend, Red Cross Volunteers and the Waverly Fire Department went door to door offering the installation of smoke detectors in homes.
