Town of Union residents who enjoy ice skating have been utilizing a temporary facility at Highland Park in Endwell.

A softball field at the park was flooded a few weeks ago to provide the skating area. The site has been used for skating in recent years.

Although some who've used the temporary site have noted the ice surface sometimes is rough, they've expressed appreciation for a place to skate during the winter.

A community group is working with town officials to develop plans to open a permanent skating facility at the park.

Organizers of the ice rink project are hoping to have a better facility available for use next winter.
