IBM Country Club Site Remains Vacant Years After Demolition
Five years after Broome County announced plans to allocate $2 million to help redevelop the abandoned IBM Country Club property, the site remain unused.
County Executive Jason Garnar and other local officials gathered at the town of Union site in July 2021 to outline an initiative as part of an effort "in bringing this property back to life."

At the time, Garnar noted the derelict buildings on the Watson Boulevard site were beyond repair. He said the site would have to be cleared before it could be redeveloped.
Plans to build a 75-unit apartment building on the nine-acre parcel were announced in 2022 but the project eventually was scrapped.

Garnar told WNBF News said he continues to regard the site "as a great property to do different types of redevelopment on, especially housing."
Town of Union supervisor Robert Mack recently said he believes the site is "a bad place for family-type housing" because Watson Boulevard is "a dangerous road" with no sidewalks.

Mack said he'd like to see a project similar to the apartment complex that was developed at 50 Front Street in Binghamton.
He noted the location would be attractive because of its proximity to a golf course and the Wegmans supermarket on Harry L Drive.
