The grills at a couple of Burger King restaurants in the Binghamton area will be shut down for weeks for renovation work.

Employees say the Burger King locations on Ash Road in Vestal and East Main Street in Endwell are expected to be closed for at least a month and perhaps as long as two months for the modernization projects.

Representatives of the franchise operator recently discussed details of the renovations at meetings of the town of Vestal and town of Union planning boards.

Both restaurants are scheduled to close at 5 p.m. Friday. Similar remodeling work at other New York state Burger King locations has taken four to six weeks to complete.

Plans call for the addition of a second drive-thru lane at the Vestal restaurant to help speed up service.

The Endwell site will continue to operate with a single drive-thru lane because there's not enough space at that location to add a lane.

Other Burger King restaurants in the Binghamton area also will be renovated over the next several months.

Burger King owner Restaurant Brands International is spending hundreds of millions of dollars to modernize most of its U.S. locations.
