Binghamton police detectives are working to locate a suspect in connection with an armed robbery at a downtown bank.

Authorities say the heist happened Friday morning at the Chemung Canal Trust branch office at 127 Court Street.

Lieutenant Cory Minor said a man approached a bank employee as she was entering the building through a rear door at 7:56 a.m.

Minor said the man forced the woman inside the bank. He displayed a knife and demanded money.

The robber obtained some cash and then fled on foot onto Court Street. Minor said it was unknown if he ran to a vehicle to leave the area.

The suspect was described as white; between 5 feet 7 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall; medium build; wearing blue jeans, a dark-colored coat and hat with a scarf covering his face.

Minor said there were no injuries in the incident.

People with information about the robbery may contact the Binghamton Police detective bureau at 607.772.7080.
