Binghamton Apartment Complex Getting a Major Makeover
Residents have moved into the first renovated apartments at a 22-building apartment complex on Binghamton's North Side.
The $94 million project at the 256-unit site was announced by Vesta Corporation in January 2025.

The Connecticut-based company acquired the troubled Town & Country apartments with plans to transform the place into a safe and attractive community.
Renovation work has been completed in seven buildings in the complex, which has been rebranded as Rivers Bend Apartments.

Old boilers in the buildings were scrapped as part of the project to provide efficient all-electric units. About 70 apartments now are occupied.
When the complex opened in 1964, it was known as Countrytowne Apartments. It was advertised as offering "a pleasant new place to live" with apartments that featured "a luxurious look."

Conditions at the property deteriorated during its years as "Town & Country." The dilapidated complex became known for general chaos and violent crimes.
Improvements were promised in 2019 when a Boston-developer announced plans to buy and renovate the complex but the improvements were never made.
The current Vesta project is receiving financial support from the state and the city of Binghamton in an effort to provide more affordable housing options in the region.

The property includes one-, two- and three-bedroom floor plans. A new playground has been built and a community center is to be constructed in the months ahead.
Vesta is accepting applications in a leasing office at the Roberts Street complex. Income guidelines for the apartments can be found at the Rivers Bend website.
